Browser video effect studio

MATCHA FILTER

Give a video moving liquid distortion, painterly detail, olive-yellow color, and shifting grain. The file stays on your device.

MATCHA FILTER Local only

Upload a video or photo

Video is the main experience. MP4, MOV, WebM, JPG, PNG, and WebP are supported when your browser can decode them.

or drop a file here

Media stays in this tab and is never uploaded.

From source clip to moving matcha

The preview reacts as the video plays. Start with the recommended settings, then tune motion and grain for your footage.

  1. CHOOSE

    Open local media

Open an MP4, MOV, WebM, JPG, PNG, or WebP that your browser can decode. Nothing is transferred to an upload endpoint.

  2. TUNE

    Adjust the movement

Adjust filter strength, liquid motion, and grain while the clip plays. Hold the compare control to check the original frame.

  3. EXPORT

    Record the result

Photos export as PNG. Videos are rendered in real time to WebM through the browser's canvas recorder.

Built for motion

A video effect, not a static green preset

The recognizable look comes from time-based movement. Color is only one layer of the result.

  • Liquid displacement

Animated flow fields bend the whole frame instead of placing a fixed tint over it.

  • Painterly compression

Neighborhood smoothing, edge emphasis, and tonal steps create an oil-painted surface.

  • Changing texture

Temporal grain and evolving distortion keep consecutive frames from looking identical.

  • Private processing

Object URLs, WebGL2, and MediaRecorder do the work locally. The tool has no media-processing server.

Start with a clean source

Short, high-resolution clips give the browser more detail to reshape and are easier to export without interruption. A heavily compressed repost can still take the effect, but block noise, clipped color, or unreadable text in the source will remain visible beneath the treatment.

For a predictable first pass, use a clip with steady lighting and clear subject separation. Preview faces, captions, and fast movement at full strength, then lower the liquid control when legibility matters more than distortion.

Need to reduce a Matcha Filter?

The separate removal workspace can reduce green-yellow tint, grain, and crushed contrast. It cannot recreate pixels or geometry that a finished effect already destroyed.

Matcha Filter basics

Is Matcha Filter mainly for video?

Yes. The primary effect is animated: liquid-like distortion, shifting texture, and grain change over time. Photo input is included for still previews and cover images.

Does this site upload my video?

No. Your browser creates a temporary local object URL, decodes the media, renders it to a WebGL canvas, and records the canvas locally. Analytics, when accepted, receives page-use events but never the media file.

Why does video export take as long as the clip?

The browser records processed canvas frames in real time. A 20-second source therefore takes about 20 seconds to export. This keeps the workflow local and broadly compatible.

What video format is downloaded?

The tool chooses the best WebM codec available in your browser, normally VP9 or VP8. You can convert the WebM file later if an editor requires MP4.

Is this an official TikTok or Instagram effect?

No. Matcha Filter is an independent browser tool. It is not owned, endorsed, or operated by TikTok, Instagram, or their parent companies.
